Serbia rejoiced at a 2-0 half-time lead due to Milan Jovanović's opener on 17 minutes and Romanian Dorel Stoica's headed own goal a minute before the break. However, in the second half, Romania’s endavour and well-deserved goals from Ciprian Marica ('50) and Stoica ('74), at the right end this time, were in vain, as Branislav Ivanović's strike on 59 minutes proved decisive.
