Romania’s health minister Eugen Nicolaescu said Friday during a press conference that decentralizing the health system will lead to cutting between 5% and 15% of positions in the field, mainly management positions.

The minister said that thus there will be a cutback in the number of personnel working within the ministry. He added that public health structures, as well as those regarding medical equipment and infrastructure investments will pass in the management of regional departments.

“We intend to work with regional departments and eliminate county ones. I wish 2008 to be the year in which we start decentralizing the health field,” Nicolaescu said.
