Romania New Car Market Falls 30% In First 9 Mos, 5th Biggest Decline In EU
Romania's new car market registered the fifth biggest decline in the European Union in January-September, of 29.7% on the year, compared to an average decline of 4.3% in the EU, according to the European Association of Carmakers (ACEA).

Romania registered 62,348 new cars in the first nine months of the year, compared to 88,641 in the same interval in 2009. In the European Union the total number of new car registrations stood at 10.25 million in the first nine months.
The biggest declines were registered in Bulgaria (-37.8%), Greece (-31.9%), Hungary (-31.6%) and Slovakia (-29.9%). The biggest growth in new car registrations was registered in Ireland (52.3%), followed by Portugal (43%), Sweden (35.9%) and Denmark (35.5%).
In September alone, Romania registered 6,860 new cars, 1.2% more than in September 2009. In the EU, September registrations declined 9.6%, to 1.22 million cars, marking the sixth consecutive month of decline.
By volume, the biggest car market by new registrations in the first nine months was Germania, with 2.16 million cars, but the country's new car market declined 27.5%. For September, the UK was the leading new car market, with 335,246 registrations (-8.9%).
By brands, Romania's Dacia ranks fourth in the EU, with a 11.4% growth in new car registrations in the first nine months, to 192,833 units. The Romanian carmaker's market share increased to 1.9% from 1.6%.
The best selling brand in the EU in the first nine months was Land Rover (27.8%, to 51,529 cars), followed by Nissan (15.5%, to 295,987 units) and Volvo (13.2%, to 156,294 units).
