Romania Not Affected By Russia-Ukraine Gas Row - Econ Min
Romania does not face any problems in ensuring natural gas, although Romanian authorities received a notification from Russian gas producer Gazprom on a 32% cut in gas supplies by January 11, economy minister Adriean Videanu told a press conference Saturday.

“We don’t have any kind of problem, even though we received the notification from Gazprom’s Balkan center on the reduction by 3.1 million cubic meters of gas from the normal 7.1 million cubic meters of gas. We have exploitation reserves as well as stored reserved,” Videanu said.
According to the manager of the dispatching unit for gas within Transgaz, Marius Stroia, Romania’s gas consumption reaches 58.5 million cubic meters each day, of which 33 million cubic meters come from internal production, covered by Romgaz, Petrom and other companies.
Romania imports 6.5 million cubic meters a day, of which 4.1 million cubic meters transit Isaccea, southeastern Romania, and 2.4 million cubic meters transit Mediesul Aurit.
The maximum storage capacity touches 26 million cubic meters daily, of which 19 million cubic meters are daily delivered, and there is another reserve of seven million cubic meters per day in the storage containers, Stroia added.
Romania’s largest vertically integrated oil company Petrom (SNP.RO) will shut down the chemical plant Doljchim, which will bring about important gas savings.
“The chemical plant will shut down on economic grounds. Thus, 1.2 million cubic meters of gas will be saved daily,” the economy minister said.
Francisc Toth, the general manager of Romania’s largest gas producer Romgaz, told MEDIAFAX gas flows from Russia are at the level of the quantities contracted by the company.
Romania imports a third of the annual gas consumption from Russia.
Russian company Gazprom said Friday Ukraine did not allow Russia to deliver the entire gas supplies destined to European clients for Saturday. Gazprom accused Ukraine it “steals” Russian natural gas transiting the country to clients in the European Union.
Russia cut off gas supplies to Ukraine following rows between the two states over Kiev’s debt for important quantities. Ukraine also disapproved of Russia’s significant price hike for gas.
