Romanian private lending fell 1.1% in real terms to 206.8 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.3079) in October from the month earlier, central bank data showed Wednesday.

Romania October Private Lending Falls 1.1% On Month

Private lending in Romanian lei was down 1.1% on the month in October, while loans in foreign currency fell 0.5%.

Non-government lending was down 4.7% on the year in October, held down by local currency loans.

In real terms, private loans in Romanian lei fell 10% year-on-year to RON77.5 billion in October.

Foreign currency loans, when expressed in lei, rose 6.5% on the year to RON129.3 billion. When expressed in euros, hard currency loans were up 7.3% compared with October 2009.

Deposits of non-government resident customers slipped 0.6% on the month to RON168.9 billion in October.

End-October, government credit was at RON53.8 billion, up 25.3% in real terms compared with the same period a year earlier.
