“I’m asking the unionists to postpone their protests until after elections, until December, as most certainly there will be a possibility to discuss money versus reforms in December,” Basescu told a press conference.

Basescu ensured the unionists the future Government will be willing to discuss the topic of reforms versus money.

"Jeopardizing the upcoming elections is not the best thing to do, and it is not in the interests of the unionists either. This is not the best moment for protests,” Basescu added.

The unionists’ requests on wage hikes are righteous for many social categories, but Romania can no longer afford substantial wage hikes without reforms, he said.

“Reforms versus money – this is the tandem which can lead to wage hikes,” Basescu said.
