According to Anton, state-owned airline Tarom lost about EUR3 million following the air traffic disruption caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland, adding private airlines were also affected.
Anton said Romania might be again covered by a volcanic ash cloud, adding, official data show, nevertheless, that it is unlikely the plume of ash will reach the country, as eruptions have slowed down.
Romanian air traffic overseer Romatsa general manager Bogdan Donciu said Monday Romania's international airports might be opened starting Monday night, adding the first likely to resume air traffic is the airport in the central city of Targu Mures.
Donciu told MEDIAFAX that proposals to resume air traffic were made, as the volcanic ask cloud is dispersing, adding that, if these proposals are approved, airports will be reopened.
The Romanian Government's committee for emergency situations decided Monday to open eight more airports, namely the two near Bucharest (Otopeni and Baneasa) and the ones in Craiova, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Oradea, Satu Mare and Baia Mare.
Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc warned that the airports' reopening does not mean passengers are able to travel to any country and advised travelers to check their destination with the companies which issue tickets.
Air traffic over Romania has been halted since Saturday afternoon, due to the approach of a volcanic ash cloud caused by an eruption in southern Iceland.
