Romania Opens Apple-Shaped Pavilion At World Expo 2010 On Saturday

Romania's pavilion, which pictures a green apple and a slice of an apple lying on the ground, includes exhibition halls, multimedia screens, a conference room, a stage and a restaurant serving Romanian traditional food.

Romania's pavilion is placed in the European zone near Russia's, Croatia's and the Netherlands' pavilions.

Romania's exhibition hall includes four sectors which present the country's architectural landmarks - fortified churches, monasteries and medieval cities, as well as the development of modern cities and urban civilization.

The pavilion was built based on a Romanian project carried out by a Chinese constructor which finished works in six months.

The 2,000-square-meter apple pavilion, which symbolizes an environment-friendly city, is ranked among the first ten Expo Shanghai pavilions in an unofficial top, and the country hopes to attract seven million visitors.

World Expo 2010 gathers 200 pavilions and many of the countries participating in the event hope to be allowed to keep them open after the closing of the event.

Romania also hopes to preserve its pavilion after the World Expo site is closed, in order to continue promoting the country in China.

Ferdinand Nagy, Commissioner General of Romania's exhibition at World Expo 2010 said, after the opening of the country's pavilion, that his and his team's concern during the following six months is to honestly represent Romania.

Nagy said Romania aims to promote its image in China, mainly by showing its cultural identity and its economic potential.

Nagy highlighted Romania spent less on setting up its pavilion than other counties, adding it is among the most interesting expo sites. He also said there was no special budget allotted to promote the country's pavilion, adding about EUR100,000 were eventually used for this purpose.

Moldova's Economy Minister Valeriu Lazăr, local businessmen, and other pavilions' officials were present at the opening of the Romanian site.
