Romania Opposes Kosovo Independence
Romanian president Traian Basescu stated, after talks with political parties, that Romania maintains its stance and does not acknowledge the independence of the Kosovo province for reasons such as the grant of collective minority rights and lack of observance for Serbia’s territorial integrity.

According to Basescu, other reasons not to acknowledge Kosovo independence include the violation of the principle border inviolability as Serbian sovereignty, as well as the fact that there is no UN Security Council resolution regulating the declaration of independence made in Pristina.
In addition, Basescu added that the Albanian side and the Serb side have yet to reach common grounds, through direct negotiations.
"We feel that both parties lose at the moment," said Basescu.
He added that the activity of the Romanian diplomatic office in Pristina would cease.
