Those who offer, as well as those who receive such electoral gifts, could face prison sentences ranging between five months and six years.
The New Generation Party asked the Romanian Central Electoral Office to clarify the meaning of law 67 of 2004, which addresses the offering of goods and other services in the electoral campaign.
The electoral office enacted a decision according to which parties and candidates cannot seek the sympathy of voters by offering them food, alcoholic and soft drinks, cigarettes, as well as other items of value.
The Central Electoral Office compiled a list of items allowed in the campaign: posters, fliers, postcards, pictures, lighters, calendars, mugs, paper notebooks, pens, caps, t-shirts, scarves.
