Romania’s Population Decreased By 6,786 People In Feb 2011

In February 2011, Romania reported 14,917 babies born alive, down 1,408 compared to the previous month, and 21,703 deceased, down 1,746 compared to January, the INS said. Data show that 147 infants died in February.

According to INS, the negative natural growth, namely, the surplus of deceased compared to the surplus of newborns, triggered a decrease in population by 6,786 people in February. In January, Romania’s population decreased by 7,124 people.

Compared to February 2010, the number of babies born alive was down 1,169 in February this year and the number of deceased was lower by 241.

Romania reported 4,393 marriages in February 2011, up 640 compared to January, and 3,311 divorces, up 2,034 compared to the previous month.

In February 2011, the number of marriages was lower by 348 compared to the same interval in 2010, while the number of divorces was up 351.

In February 2010, Romania’s population decreased by 5,858.
