Romania Police Seized 2,304 Kg Narcotics, Hallucinogens In 2007
The Romanian Police seized 2,304 kilograms of narcotics and hallucinogens in 2007, up 82% on year, the head of police Gheorghe Popa said Tuesday.

“Cannabis remained the most sought after drug due to its low price,” Popa said, mentioning the drug usage level among youngsters has increased in the past year.
As to human trafficking, 2007 saw a 8.5% decrease in the number of victims, Popa said. He said the number of sexually exploited victims also decreased by 37% in 2007.
However, the number of victims subject to work exploitation doubled in 2007.
Police managed to dissolve 41% more criminal groups compared to 2006, Popa said.
He said the murder rate went down 7% in 2007, while armed violence decreased by 36%.
Street crime also lowered in 2007, as murder cases went down 2%, robbery – 28%, rape – 34% and thefts – 21%.
