Romania's President, Supreme Court head, Senate chairman and Chamber of Deputies speaker will have the highest salaries in the public sector over the next years, Valentin Mocan, state secretary with Romania’s Labor Ministry, said Thursday.
According to Mocan, the highest of the four salaries will be frozen so that the other three salaries reach the same level.
Mocan also said, upon the meeting of the ministry’s workgroup, that significant steps were taken into the right direction, adding the public sector salary grid is close to being completed.
He also said that, according to proposals from ministries, the salary grid would include all public sector positions until next week.
Mocanu said the workgroup also discussed the ranking coefficients for the three salary levels included in the grid. He added that, currently, there is only one proposal in this respect, according to which the low salary level should see a 3 to 5 coefficient, while the maximum level should see an 8 to 11 coefficient.
Moreover, following the proposal of the Education Ministry, the workgroup decided that first-degree teachers with a seniority of six up to ten years be replaced with second-degree teachers.
The executive president of the "Spiru Haret" union federation, Marius Nistor, stressed this change was necessary, as all other categories of positions had the possibility to reach a higher level, while first-degree teachers would simply benefit from the same salary level.
Education unionists said university professors should be placed in the salary grid on the same level with a Defense Ministry General, considering this is the highest position in education.
