Local currency lending increased 0.7% (+0.3% in real terms) on the month in May, while foreign currency lending decreased 0.3% when expressed in lei and by 0.1% when expressed in euros, the central bank said.
Compared with May 2018, private lending in Romania grew 7.7% (+3.5% in real terms), as local currency lending grew 10.3% (+5.9% in real terms), and foreign currency lending grew by 3% when expressed in lei and by 0.8% when expressed in euros.
Deposits of non-government resident customers stood at RON336.64 billion in May, 0.2% lower compared with in April, the data showed.
Deposits grew 9.1% (+4.8% in real terms) in May compared with May 2018.
Government credit grew 3.9% in May compared with April, to RON104.83 billion. Compared with May 2018, government credit grew 3.6% in nominal terms and decreased 0.5% in real terms.
