The first ten countries in the top are considered attractive for international retailers, the next ten states are considered for possible investments, while the rest of them have a low attractiveness rate.
In 2009, Romania came in 23rd place in a same ranking, losing one position from a year earlier.
According to A.T. Kearney analysts, Romania's decline in retail attractiveness in 2010 is due to the saturation of the local retail market, dominated by Metro, Schwarz, Carrefour, Delhaize, Intermarche, Spar and Auchan.
However, Romania scored the best results in country risk index, which rose to 61.8 points, from 49 points a year before.
In 2010, the most attractive country for international retailers is China, followed by Kuwait, India, Saudi Arabia and Brazil.
Romania (28th) and Bosnia Herzegovina (29th) are the only Eastern European states included in the low attractiveness category, alongside Algeria (21st), Philippine (22nd), the Dominican Republic (23rd), Southern Africa (24th), Mexico (25th), Columbia (26th), El Salvador (27th) and Guatemala (30th).
In the A.T. Kearney's top, Russia ranks 10th, Albania - 12th, Bulgaria - 19th and Macedonia -20th.
Among the 30 countries under survey, 14 had a positive evolution, eight stagnated and eight recorded loses, the research says.
