Flight tariffs depend not only on the airline one chooses to travel with, and also on the countries overflown. The 2017 Flight Price Index survey places Romania first by short-haul flights, with a cost of EUR2.79 per 100 km, for low-cost services. Romania is followed by Bulgaria, with EUR2.92 per 100 km and Malaysia with EUR3.30 per 100 km.
Romania ranks 12th by international flights, with EUR2.44 per 100 km, and Sweden holds the top spot with EUR1.2 per 100 km.
Overall, factoring in both short and long-haul flights, Romania ranks fifth worldwide by the flight price index, after Malaysia, Bulgaria, India and Turkey, of over one million flights analysed in 80 countries.
Qatar which offers the most expensive domestic flights on low cost airlines, at EUR80.42 per 100 km of travel, and Brazil offers the most expensive long-haul flights, at EUR26.34 per 100 km.
