Streinu-Cercel said the six patients with severe infections are from Iasi, northeastern Romania, and aged over 26, adding five of them suffer from associated pathologies such as diabetes, infectious obstructive bronchopneumonia, hypertension and obesity.
Streinu-Cercel said other 54 new cases of infection with the AH1N1 virus were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 1,519. He added that, starting November 26, the vaccine against the AH1N1 flu virus will be taken from the Cantacuzino Institute and distributed to public health departments in the country.
Streinu-Cercel said the vaccine will be transported by gendarmeries' cars, as they benefit from a proper refrigerating system allowing for the safe transport of the vaccine.
Romanian interim Health Minister Adriean Videanu said Tuesday during a visit to Galati, eastern Romania, adults' vaccination against the AH1N1 virus starts on November 26, adding the doses will be transported to each county under military surveillance.
Videanu said tests of the AH1N1 vaccine produced by the Cantacuzino Institute were completed and the National Medicine Agency is expected to authorize the vaccine.
Regarding children's vaccination, Videanu said the testing procedures are more difficult and vaccinations for children are expected to start in January 2010.
