Romanian PM Urges Romanians Again To Go Vote
Tariceanu said voting is a fundamental right and also a civic duty and it is alarming to see that voter turnout at GMT 1200 was much lower than that recorded at the parliamentary elections in 2004.
"The turnout is very very low. I call on all citizens to understand that, at this time when we have switched from voting for a list to voting for individual candidates, the Parliament becomes the institution with the largest representation for all Romanians. I warmly and respectfully call on all Romanians to understand that it is necessary for their future to exercise their right to vote and choose those candidates that best express their own political choices,” Tariceanu said.
Only 19.84% of Romanians cast ballots until GMT 1200, a much lower turnout than the 27.18% recorded at the same time in the 2004 parliamentary elections and the 27.25% recorded at the polls in 2000.
