Basescu said during the press conference organized after his meeting with Barosso that one of the main concerns and motivations for the meeting, for himself as head of state and for government members, was to make the Romanian government’s objectives known to the Commission and a “better use of EU funds”.

He said romania’s goal is to reduce evaluation periods for EU funded projects and to adjust national laws to the Commission’s decision to reduce the period to 30 days from 87.

"As soon as possible, in the upcoming seven days, we’ll send a proposal to amend the public procurement law, as this law was discussed with the EC before Romania became a EU member," Basescu said.
