“This evening I will fax in my resignation request to Prime Minister Tariceanu, because it is incompatible with the position of MEP,” Winkler said.

Winkler is a member of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania, or UDMR. He said that the person to take over the leadership of the Ministry of Communications would probably be selected next week by the Democratic Union of Hungarian in Romania.

“For now, no proposal was forwarded,” the minister added.

UDMR Senator Frunda Gyorgy, first on the party’s list for EP positions said Friday that he decided to withdraw his candidacy. Thus, Sogor Csaba and Iuliu Winkler will remain UDMR’s representatives in the European Parliament.
