"Ask mister Nica if he asked for the prime minister's approval when he proposed people to run (the Ministry of Interior's intelligence division). See what he says. He will tell you that he didn't and he preferred all sorts of improvised solutions," Basescu said.
"The Ministry of Interior had the possibility to appoint a new minister. The problem was with the social democrat interests involved, and those of (PSD leader) Mircea Geoana," Basescu added.
Basescu's statements come as the latest addendum to his accusations that the archives of the Ministry of Interior's intelligence division were opened up by former minister Dan Nica to serve as instruments in the political battle ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
