Romania’s Former Govt Tries To Justify Its Incompetence – Econ Min
“In January 2008, I said that 2007 was a failed year regarding macroeconomic evolution in Romania, and that the 2008 might be a disaster – which, unfortunately, confirmed – if we have an irresponsible government policy,” Videanu said, criticizing the former Cabinet run by liberal Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
Videanu said Romania’s ratings, which last year were reduced to “junk” by both S&P and Moody’s, have a direct impact on the private sector.
One of the priorities of the current government is to support the business environment and compensate market losses in the private sector, he added.
In addition, the authorities target measures to restore Romania’s credibility, attract European financing and initiate administrative decentralization, Videanu said.
On Sunday, former premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu accused the government coalition of not being able to keep their electoral promises.
“One cannot make promises during the campaign and then declare: you know, due to various reasons, particularly connected to the former government, we cannot grant salary hikes now,” Tariceanu said, referring to the populist measure to increase teachers’ wages by 50% promoted by the social democrats and the liberal democrats in the electoral campaign.
Tariceanu accused the coalition of incompetence, lack of professionalism and urged Premier Emil Boc to present an anti-crisis plan or liberals will call for an extraordinary Parliament session.
