Romanian Health Ministry Cuts Over 1,600 Positions In Healthcare Units

Romania’s Health Ministry finished the reorganization and restructuring process by which 1,621 positions and 233 vacant resident practitioner jobs have been slashed, Government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean said Wednesday.

Of the total 9,920 positions both in healthcare units financed by the ministry, from the state budget, and in self-financed units also subsidized by the state, 1,621 positions were eliminated (978 vacancies), she said.

Of the 7,872 positions financed entirely from the budget, 918 were eliminated (579 filled and 339 vacant). Public health departments lost 497 positions and healthcare units subordinated to the ministry slashed 181 jobs. Over 200 vacant resident practitioner positions were also eliminated.
