According to Government officials, the new car pollution tax will enter force in 2011, if authorities decide to modify it.

Prime Minister Emil Boc said an inter-ministry workgroup to analyze the prospect of modifying the car pollution tax has already been set up.

The car pollution tax was implemented by the Government in April 2008, and was calculated taking into account the cars’ technical data and based upon the cars’ carbon dioxide emissions.

Romania’s Government estimates to collect 1.65 billion lei (EUR1=RON 4.1186) from the car pollution tax this year.
