Romania’s Hungarian Minority Party Likely To Get 3 Ministers, Deputy-PM In Future Govt

Marko said the party did discuss several propositions but nominations will be made within the party's council meeting later Friday. He also said the future government is planned to have a sole deputy-prime minister position.

Democrat liberals, whose leader Emil Boc was designated prime minister Thursday, also have a council meeting Friday to discuss the government's structure and designate their ministers.

Boc said the future government will have 14 or 15 ministries instead of the current 19.

People close to the talks between the two parties said UDMR is likely to get the Health Ministry, Environment Ministry, Culture Ministry and Marko would be appointed deputy prime minister.

Boc has said he wants the list of the future Cabinet submitted to Parliament this weekend and President Traian Basescu said a confidence vote on the new government should be held by December 23. Under the law, the parliament has to hold a confidence vote within 15 days of when it receives the Cabinet list and governing program for which the vote is sought.
