„There will be a shock in 2013. Imagine that the subsidy on pit coal will be gone and, starting with 2013, pollution permits will have to be bought entirely. Romania gets 40% of its energy from coal. Thus, the price of energy will not grow in the near future, but there is no telling what will happen in three years,” Sandulescu said.

The price of coal grows by 10% per year, and these changes are not yet felt by the end user, which requires explanations from regulator ANRE officials, Sandulescu added.

Another element that influences energy prices will be the development of production from renewable sources.

„EU directives do not contain any provisions on the price paid by the end consumer,” Sandulescu concluded.
