Romania’s Jan-Aug Budget Deficit Widens To 4.1% Of GDP – Sources

Romania’s consolidated budget posted a deficit of 20.9 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2455), or 4.1% of the gross domestic product, after the first eight months of the year, people from the Finance Ministry told MEDIAFAX.

In August alone, the deficit rose by almost RON1 billion, as it stood at RON20 billion at the end of July.

In January to August, budget revenue stood at RON106.25 billion, or 20.8% of the GDP. Expenditure amounted to 24.9% of the GDP, as it was at RON127.16 billion, the people said.

The 2010 GDP is estimated at RON511.58 billion.

For the full year, Romania’s government intends to slash the budget deficit to 6.8% of the GDP, from 7.2% of GDP in 2009.
