Romanian ’08 FDI At EUR9.02B, Up 24.4% Y-Y – Ctrl Bk

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Romania rose to EUR9.02 billion in 2008, up 24.4% on the year, the central bank said Thursday.

Of the total foreign direct investments in 2008, the equity stakes and the net reinvested earnings totaled 50.1%.

The net credits, namely the direct companies’ borrowings from the foreign investor, less the loans extended by the companies to the foreign investor or to another entity within its group, were 49.9% of the total FDI amount.

Foreign direct investments covered last year 53.5% of the current account deficit.

Last year, the Romanian agency for foreign investments ARIS forecasted total FDI at EUR8 billion in 2008, while the government forecasted EUR10 billion investments.

In 2007, Romania attracted foreign direct investments worth EUR7.25 billion, according to central bank data.
