Romania’s Labor Code To Remain Unchanged For Another Two Yrs-Unions
Hossu told a news conference that “four rounds of elections will take place in Romania in the next two years and no one will dare confront the entire union movement.”
The official said that wide protests are unlikely to take place in the following period because the government will not amend stipulations included in the Labor Code, namely to increase the weekly working schedule from 48 to 60 hours.
“We will probably witness a general status-quo. Everybody is going to wait for the local and general elections to take place,” said the Cartel Alfa head.
Grigore Pop, the head of the Cartel Alfa branch in Cluj explained why certain companies aim increasing the weekly working schedule from 48 to 60 hours.
“Employers want to amend the Labor Code because currently people work 40 hours per week plus another eight hours that are paid double. Companies eye cutting expenses by introducing the weekly 60-hour schedule,” Pop explained.
