Romanian Parliament To Join “Earth Hour” Initiative
According to the memo, on March 27 there will be an international event meant to draw the attention of the international community on the need to protect the environment. The memo also states in Romania the event will be under the tutelage of the World Wide Fund for Nature.
The technical department will ensure the temporary cease of lighting at the Parliament Palace, in between 8.30 and 9.30 pm local time.
In 2007, authorities and citizens in Australian city Sydney decided to act against the threat posed by global warming, and over two million people attended the initiative by putting out their lights and unplugging all devices. The event was called „Earth Hour” and it constituted a message on the need for action towards the reduction of energy consumption.
In Earth Hour became a global movement, as 27 large cities in the world participated in the event. In 2009, 600 million people in over 4,000 cities and 88 countries joined the initiative.
