Romanian Anti-Gay March Concludes Without Incidents

The Romanian march "for normality" concluded without incidents, while participants, throughout the event, chanted religious anthems, the Romanian national anthem and said prayers.

Some one hundred people gathered Friday in the George Enescu Square in Bucharest, from where they will start out on a march towards Dealul Mitropoliei, in a rally called "March for normality" which was organize as reaction against the gay parade held Saturday.

The rally will end at 20.00 local time.

The protestors have signs written with "The original marriage, not imitations,” they are waving Romanian flags and singing religious anthems. The march is also joined by priests.

There will be another “March for normality” organized by radical association "Noua Dreapta", which will take place Saturday, several hours before the gay parade.

Participants in Saturday’s march will start form the George Enescu square at 13.00 local time and will he towards Dealul Mitropoliei, while the protest will end at 14.00. organizers estimate the protest will be joined by some 300 people.

The gay parade, unfolded annually at the end of the festival organized in Bucharest by the Association "Accept", will start Saturday at 17.00 local time. The participants in the rally will start out at 17.30 towards the Izvor Park. Organizers said 500 people will join the rally.

Order during the three rallies will be maintained by units from the Gendarmerie and Bucharest Police, as well as Fast Intervention units.
