Power output grew to 6.32 million tons of oil equivalent in the first quarter of the year, while the country’s power resources reached 10.36 million toe in the same period, the institute said.
The decrease in the power resources was due to a 10% decline in imports in January-March, the institute said.
Romania’s energy capacity continues to be mostly thermal, with output dropping 7.2% in Jan-Mar from the corresponding period a year ago. Hydropower output stood at 792.6 million kilowatt-hour in the first three months of this year, 22% higher than over the corresponding period last year.
Electric power resources rose 10% on the year in the first quarter to 18 billion KWh on power output increases, while electric power consumption rose 5.3% on the year to nearly 14 billion KWh in the same period.
Power exports rose 58% to 632.5 million KWh in January-March compared with the year-earlier period.
