Romania’s PM Nomination, Huge Step Back For The Country – Liberal Official
"It’s a huge step back. After 17 years during which Romania should have evolved and modernized, President Basescu nominates for prime minister the same propone nominated by Ion Iliescu for the same position after the coup d’etat he staged with the help of miners," Orban said.
"We are entering a dramatic era in which the government will be led by a man who neither listens to the Democratic Liberal Party or any other party to be included in the coalition, but will be directly guided by Traian Basescu," Orban said, adding Romania faces a time when the risk of “an authoritarian regime of the president is greater and greater”.
He concluded that the Liberal Party will oppose any initiative that affects the rights and liberties of individuals, democracy and Romania’s European statute.
Democrat liberal Theodor Stolojan was officially designated Wednesday by the head of state as candidate for the prime minister office in a future governing coalition to be negotiated between democrat liberals, social democrats and the Hungarian minority party.
