“Romania is to decide if to take part in the EU mission in Chad and a final decision on this matter will be made, as always, though legal procedures,” reads to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MAE considers that the country’s involvement in the operations in Chad would consolidate its position in the field of European Security and Defense Policy. Romania needs to assume an active and responsible role as the seventh widest country in the Union.

MAE highlighted that the mission of EU troops is not to become involved in the conflict between Chad and Darfur but to contribute to the protection of refugees in the Darfur area.

Earlier today Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu said that Romania is part of the joint European defense policy and, in this respect, it is always responsibly analyzing the ability to contribute to missions under the European banner.
