"I ask you to consider joining the government under the conditions dictated by the voters," Basescu told liberal leader Crin Antonescu
Basescu said Wednesday, at the beginning of talks with the Hungarian minority party, held at the Presidential Palace, he wants a Government to take into account the program he presented during the presidential election campaign, adding he hopes liberals will accept to form a Government coalition.
In return, Antonescu said Basescu and the Democratic Liberal Party represent a threat to the rule of law, adding liberals will enter opposition if the country's future prime minister is not a liberal.
Antonescu accused Basescu of trying to block liberals' access to governing the country despite the president's statements regarding a right-wing Executive.
"You cannot block our access to opposition," Antonescu said.
