Romania militates for active talks this year on concluding an agreement of free trade and visa liberalization with the Republic of Moldova, which must seriously apply the Agreement on Small-Scale Border Traffic recently concluded with Romania, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Wednesday.

„Romania wants talks on a future free trade agreement and visa liberalization to set off this year. As for the free movement of people, Moldova ought to strictly implement the Agreement on Small-Scale Border Traffic,” said Boc, stressing the Romanian government keeps assisting Moldovan authorities on the process.

Boc also said Wednesday, before leaving for Chisinau, that the Agreement on Small-Scale Border Traffic is sheer proof of Romania’s pragmatism and efficiency in the relation with the Republic of Moldova, adding it will test the two countries’ ability to „strictly” apply the agreement.

Boc also said he will reaffirm Romania’s support for Moldova’s European Union integration.

Boc left for Chisinau Wednesday morning where he will deliver, alongside Moldovan counterpart Vlad Filat, the first small border traffic permits for Moldovans residing in localities near the border with Romania.

In December 2009, Boc and Filat signed an agreement stipulating visa-free access for two to five years, for Romanian and Moldovan citizens who have been living close to the Moldovan-Romanian border for at least one year.

The agreement also stipulates crossing the border will require a valid passport and a small-scale border traffic permit.
