Romania’s Schengen Accession Could Be Put Off A Year Or Two – Presidential Adviser
„There has been no talk of a plan B and it’s clear now that accession in March 2011 is highly unlikely and the best thing to do now is try to limit the postponement period as much as possible,” Orban said.
„This is a battle we have to continue. If we look at what Romania still has to do under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, I don’t think we have reasons to be optimistic because the mechanism could be lifted around mid-2012, at best,” he added.
Asked whether Romania’s Schengen accession could be postponed for as long as a year or two, Orban said the risk is not excluded but Romania will try to limit the delay period as much as possible.
