„After evaluating the 76 submitted files, all of the 250 permits up for auction were awarded – 57 to authorized natural persons and 193 distributed among 13 companies,” an airport press release issued to MEDIAFAX said.

Fly Taxi is at present the only company authorized to pick up passengers from the airport, after winning the right in a controversial auction held by the Transports Ministry in 2004.

The cabs will be allowed to charge a maximum fare of 3.5 lei/km (EUR1=RON4.1440).

According to a draft decision of Transports Minister Radu Berceanu, airports are free to hold their own auctions in order to grant taxi authorizations and may also set a maximum fare. Furthermore, airports may decide on the number of authorizations to be issued, the number of necessary cabs (depending on passenger traffic), as well as the location of taxi stations, routes and waiting areas.

Authorizations will be valid for up to five years, but must be stamped yearly.

Cab drivers will not be allowed to: enter passenger terminals to look for potential customers, enter public parking lots next to terminals or refuse to take a customer, on any grounds. In case a taxi driver breaks the rules, the airport’s management has the right to suspend or withdraw their permit.
