Romania’s Tarom To Launch 10 New Flights In June

Romanian state-run airliner Tarom will operate six new external flights and four internal ones starting June, the air carrier said in a statement Friday.

The carrier has launched on Friday a new catering service, aimed to save the company $8.6 million.

“In addition, Tarom has a new approach to tariffs, with a promotion of EUR50 for external destinations. We have sold 45,000 tickets in a very short period (since the launch of the promotion this week – e.n.). The promotion stays until the end of the year, and we estimate sales of some 200,000 tickets,” Brutaru said.

Tarom has lower ticket costs to EUR50 for round-trips to foreign destinations and to EUR24 for internal ones, in a move to increase traffic and compete with low-fare carriers.

Brutaru mentioned that the company will keep its strategy unchanged, despite difficulties in the industry.

“The objective to join SkyTeam Alliance by the end of the year remains on company’s agenda,” she said.

SkyTeam is the second largest airline alliance in the world, comprising eleven carriers from four continents: Aeroflot, Aeromexico, Air France, Alitalia, China Southern, Continental Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines.
