According to The Straits Times, Romania's representatives will work with officials from Singapore's Attorney-General's Chambers as a joint technical working group.
The details on the issue were released by the Singaporean Foreign Affairs Ministry after a meeting with Romanian Ambassador to Singapore Aurelian Neagu on Friday.
The Singaporean Foreign Ministry said it is confident the joint group will start works by next month, The Straits Times reported.
Romanian authorities are investigating Ionescu for manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and making false statements. The Singaporean Attorney-General's Chambers also prepared a set of 13 charges against the former Romanian envoy.
According to an official press release, Singapore's Foreign Ministry informed Ambassador Neagu of the results of the investigations into Ionescu's case.
The ministry also told Neagu that Singapore's preference was for Ionescu to return to Singapore to face the charges', though there is no extradition treaty between the two countries, said The Straits Times.
Singapore's Police sent Interpol Romania an international arrest warrant against former Ionescu. Prosecutor Marius Iacob, chief of the Romanian General Prosecutors' Office criminal department, told MEDIAFAX Thursday that Interpol Romania received the international arrest warrant against Ionescu from the Singaporean police.
According to The Straits Times, at the meeting, the Singaporean ministry also lodged a strong protest with Neagu over comments Ionescu had made to the media, which insulted the Singapore judiciary following the Coroner's verdict charging the former envoy with killing a Singaporean citizen.
Romania's Foreign Ministry said Friday Neagu informed Singapore's Foreign Ministry of the steps taken by the Romanian authorities for a lawful investigation of Ionescu.
The ministry said Neagu reiterated Romania's commitment to uphold procedures needed to clear out all aspects related to the case and stressed that all the public statements made by Ionescu regarding this case were his personal standpoint and did not represent an official stance of the Romanian Foreign Ministry or the Romanian authorities.
