Romanian Leu Opens In High Volatility Vs Euro
"Immediately after the opening of today’s session, market players sold European currency because they feared that Romania’s central bank BNR might interfere on the market in the leu’s favor," said a dealer at a Bucharest-based bank.
The leu opened at RON3.88/RON3.8850 to the euro, slightly lower compared with Thursday’s closing value at RON3.7750 /RON3.78 against the euro.
At around GMT 0700, the leu was trading at RON3.87/RON3.88 to the euro, dealers said.
Thursday, the leu closed at RON3.7750 /RON3.78 against the euro, higher compared with RON3.8750/RON3.8800 in the previous session.
The central bank computed Thursday an indicative daily average rate of the leu at 3.8249 and an average rate of 2.7817 to the US dollar.
