"Immediately after the opening of today’s session, market players sold European currency because they feared that Romania’s central bank BNR might interfere on the market in the leu’s favor," said a dealer at a Bucharest-based bank.

The leu opened at RON3.88/RON3.8850 to the euro, slightly lower compared with Thursday’s closing value at RON3.7750 /RON3.78 against the euro.
At around GMT 0700, the leu was trading at RON3.87/RON3.88 to the euro, dealers said.

Thursday, the leu closed at RON3.7750 /RON3.78 against the euro, higher compared with RON3.8750/RON3.8800 in the previous session.

The central bank computed Thursday an indicative daily average rate of the leu at 3.8249 and an average rate of 2.7817 to the US dollar.
