Romanian Economy Minister Adriean Videanu has asked state-owned natural gas producer Romgaz to seek opportunities to import gas from European markets.

"I have already instructed Romgaz to go on the European spot markets to see what deals can be concluded so that we can partly bring gas from European trades," Videanu told an energy seminar Thursday.
Romania imports less than one third of its gas needs from Russia, but at double the price of locally produced gas.
"I support free gas prices, but we need a calendar approved by everyone, we need the premises for a free market (…) We need to see that the market has mechanisms for balance," Videanu also said.
