Romania could start at the beginning of the school year in fall a vaccination program against uterine cancer, Romanian Prime minister Calin Tariceanu and former US state secretary Madeleine Albright announced Thursday.
Romania Starts Uterine Cancer Vaccine Program In Autumn
Head of consultancy company Albright Group, Albright is involved in an international uterine cancer prevention campaign.
She said, after the meeting with the Romanian prime minister, that she supports such a program, as science has progressed and is creating conditions for the use of such a vaccine.
The campaign will most likely start this fall, along with the school year, she said.
The discussion was also attended by officials of the Health Ministry.
Statistically, Romania is first in eastern Europe by deaths caused by uterine cancer and six Romanian women die of this illness every day. Moreover, 3,448 Romanian women are diagnosed with uterine cancer every year and 2,094 of them die. Also, Romanians with uterine cancer are younger than patients in the rest of the world.
Over 80 countries have already introduced this vaccine in the compulsory list of vaccines for children aged 9 to 15 and women aged 16 to 26.
