The average fee charged by Cosmote and Telemobil for inter-connection services will drop as of July 1 to EUR0.0503/minute, compared to EUR0.0567/minute at the moment, while RCS&RDS will reduce the fee to EUR0.0567/minute from EUR0.064/minute.
These operators have been designated suppliers with significant power on the mobile call termination market, ANCOM said in a press release.
Operators Orange and Vodafone will continue to charge an average fee no higher than EUR0.0503/minute for these services. These fees do not include VAT.
„The regulations adopted by the Authority for the mobile call termination market aim to promote competition and protect the interests of the end-user, who will enjoy better and better rates for mobile voice calls. We hope that the application of new inter-connection rates by Cosmote, Telemobil and RCS&RDS as of July 1 will mean even lower costs for end-users,” said ANCOM president Catalin Marinescu.
The inter-connection fees for mobile call termination were determined based on a calculation model developed by the Authority in 2006 and decreased gradually, at a pace set by ANCOM.
This final stage of fee adjustment, which begins on July 1, 2010, will be followed, by the end of 2011, by the development of a new cost calculation model, which will be the base on which new inter-connection rates for all mobile operators will be calculated. The model will be developed by ANCOM according to a Europe-harmonized methodology, said the press release.
The European average for mobile call termination service fees was EUR0.063/minute on January 1, 2010.
