The Romanian government recently decided to set up an inter-ministry workgroup, which will draft until May 15, following talks with social partners, the principles of the country’s future pension law, which will also target the special retirement laws.
Romania To Draft New Pension Law Principles Until May 15
The pension law principles to be drafted by the workgroup coordinated by the Labor Ministry, will be subsequently approved by the government.
"The workgroup will draft until May 15 the principles of the future pension law, which will also include the special retirement laws. These principles will be subsequently approved by the government, the way the principles of the salary law were approved by the executive," the Prime Minister’s adviser on social issues, Mihai Seitan, said Wednesday.
Prime Minister Emil Boc has said several times that the pension law is one of the conditions included in the recent loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding the government plans to send the pension law to the Parliament to adopt it until the end of the year.
The government acknowledged in a meeting on April 23 the IMF letter approving the loan agreement with Romania and the document will be sent to the IMF and the European Commission for approval.
After the final approval of the IMF Board and of the European Council, expected at the beginning of May, the government will draft a normative act regarding the external loan and will send it to the Parliament for debates and endorsement.
