The head of state said that, following talks he held with the leaders of the IMF and the World Bank, one result was Romania’s objective to continue collaboration with the two institutions after the conclusion of the economic crisis, but not necessarily in terms of financing, but in terms of assistance.

Basescu added he does not estimate that a new standby agreement will be required, „but we will maintain an assistance agreement with the IMF, as well as with the World Bank. The objectives of this collaboration with institutions such as the IMF or the WB will be the same as those derived from our accession to the EU. Thus, the programs we will develop with the IMF and the WB mainly involve technical assistance and will target the objectives derived from the new EU 2020 Strategy, objectives we have included in the convergence program and the priority use of EU funding,” the head of state said.
