“We estimate the deal with the constructor of Arad-Timisoara motorway will be signed on September 20. The offers submitted by seven companies interested in the project have been opened on August 18. We have already analyzed several of them and we believe that we will be able to meet the deadline,” Orban said.
He did not give an exact date for the start of construction.
“I wouldn’t want to estimate a date for the start of works. The constructor will be certainly known by the end of the month and the financing is already ensured; however, there are still several stages that need completion after the deal is signed,” Orban mentioned.
The Romanian authorities estimate the nearly 50-kilometer long Arad-Timisoara motorway will require financing of EUR270 million. The funds come from a loan granted by the European Bank of Investments (EUR200 million) and from the state budget.
The construction is estimated to last for 30 months after the deal is signed.
Seven companies submitted offers for the project, namely consortiums Condote-CMC di Ravenna and Impreglio-Itinera (both from Italy), Aktor-Pantechniki (Greece) and FCC Constructiones-Astaldi (Spain/Italy) and the companies Strabag (Austria), Mota Engil (Portugal) and Colas (France).
The projects includes the construction of 32 kilometers of motorway, 24 art works (bridges and passageways), one road node and two service areas.
