The Romanian Football Federation, or FRF, submitted on Monday its candidacy to organize the UEFA Cup final in 2011; thus, an UEFA commission is analyzing in Bucharest the file presented by FRF officials Mircea Sandu and Ionut Lupescu.
Romania Vies To Organize 2011 UEFA Cup Final
FRF president Micea Sandu is convinced that the stadium to be built on the location of the existent arena within the ”Lia Manoliu” sports base will be ready early 2010. "This is the second time Romania has submitted its candidacy to organize the UEFA Cup final, but UEFA has so far said that we lack a proper stadium to host such an event," Sandu said.
Sandu also considers that organizing such an event in Bucharest will strengthen both Bucharest and Romania’s public image.
As for FRF general manger, Ionut Lupescu, he is certain that Bucharest will host the UEFA Cup final in 2011 if the new stadium is ready by 2010.
"We shall have a new stadium in two years. As far as I know, stadiums have been built in Germany in a shorter period, and the company in charge with the construction project of our stadium is also German.
Moreover, the contract will stipulate even harsher conditions in this respect," Lupescu concluded.
