Romanian president Traian Basescu said during an interview with French TV station France 24 that the country is currently discussing the possibility for Europe's newest high-speed train, the TGV East to also reach Bucharest.

Romania Wants TGV Line To Stretch Up To Bucharest

Basescu said the TGV project is a “hot” subject between France and Romania. The president expressed hope that works on the TGV Romanian sector begin in 2012.

The TGV is currently seen to travel from Paris to Budapest.

“We are currently negotiating to include Romania in the project,” said Basescu.

Basescu and French president Nicolas Sarkozy signed Monday, in Bucharest, a strategic partnership between the two countries.
