"We'd like to thank Germany for its support in Romania's EU accession and we are still counting on a good collaboration with Germany within the EU," said Boc.

He said Romania wants to sign a strategic partnership with Germany, who is the country's first trading partner and the third largest foreign investor.

Merkel is on official visit to Romania Tuesday, as the two countries celebrate 130 years of diplomatic relations. The German Chancellor is to meet with President Traian Basescu and will also visit the "Babes-Bolyai" University in Cluj-Napoca, where she will be awarded an honorary degree.
